September Reset

Simple Steps to Reignite Your Health and Lifestyle

For me, September always feels like a quiet “new year.” The summer chaos fades, routines start to settle, and suddenly, there’s space to breathe, reflect, and make small changes that really matter. As a woman juggling work, personal goals, and everything in between, I know how easy it is to let life get ahead of you. Some days, I feel energized and on top of my game; other days, I just barely make it through without feeling completely drained. That’s why I’ve learned that resets aren’t about perfection........But they’re about taking realistic, actionable steps toward a healthier, more balanced life.

This September, I’m focusing on small, practical ways to reignite my health and lifestyle. I want to share my journey with you honestly, openly, and with tips you can actually use.

Rethink Your Mornings: Start Slow, Not Rushed

For years, I treated mornings like a sprint. Alarm goes off, phone in hand, emails, messages, social media, all before my feet even hit the floor. The result? Stress, fatigue, and zero focus, the worst is that I didn't even realize it back then.

To be honest, Now....  I give myself a good 15–20 minutes of “Me Time” before anything else. Sometimes it’s stretching while sipping warm water with lemon. Sometimes it’s a good meditation with gratitude and intention for the day. Even sitting quietly with coffee feels like a win.

Listen, realistically speaking, you don’t need a full routine. (5–10 minutes) Just one small intentional act sets a positive tone for the day.

Movement That Fits Your Life

I used to think workouts had to be long, intense, and painful to “count.” Spoiler: That’s how I quit repeatedly.

Now, I focus on the movement that I enjoy. Some days, it’s a brisk walk outside. Some days, it’s 20 minutes of bodyweight exercises in my living room while the kids play. Other days, it’s dancing around to a playlist that makes me smile. The key? Consistency and joy over intensity.

Trick: Schedule movement like an appointment. Even 15 minutes a day counts. Over time, small sessions add up, and you actually look forward to them.

Food Without Stress

I won’t lie to you, my relationship with food has been a rollercoaster. As a Caribbean woman, I’ve tried every diet in the books, and on Social media, and most made me feel guilty and deprived. What works for me now is a mindset shift: food is fuel, not punishment. Master the difference.

I focus on meals that give me energy: high-protein breakfasts (Greek yogurt, eggs, or a smoothie), colorful veggies at lunch, and balanced dinners. And yes, I still allow myself treats. Life’s too short to skip chocolate from time to time!

Quick Tip: Prep snacks ahead of time, nuts, boiled eggs, and fruit. When you’re hungry and busy, having healthy options ready prevents impulse choices that make you feel sluggish.

Decluttering Is Mental Self-Care

September feels like the right time to declutter not just your home, but your mind. I tackle one small area at a time: a drawer, a closet, or my nightstand. The energy shift is immediate. Spaces feel lighter, and my mind follows.

Realistic Tip: Don’t try to clean the entire house in one day. 10–15 minutes on one space each day is enough to feel progress without burnout.

Create Joyful Rituals

November doesn’t have to feel like a waiting room for the holidays. Make it meaningful:

  • Weekly walks to admire autumn leaves.
  • Lighting a candle while journaling.
  • A gratitude jar where you add one note a day until New Year’s Eve.

These little rituals anchor you in the present moment, making everyday life feel special.

Sleep Isn’t Negotiable

I’ve been guilty of thinking I could survive on little sleep. Guess what? You can, but you won’t thrive. Sleep affects everything mood, skin, focus, and metabolism.

Trick: I dim lights 30 minutes before bed, sip herbal tea, and put my phone on silent. No social media scrolling. It’s hard at first, but your body will thank you.

    Reconnect With What Brings Joy

Life is busy. Often, we forget to do things that make us feel alive. I’ve started keeping a “joy list” of 5 small activities: reading a chapter of a novel, dancing to my favorite playlist, calling a friend I haven’t spoken to in a while. I commit to doing at least one every week.

Tip: Even 10 minutes a day dedicated to something that genuinely makes you happy counts. It boosts your mental health more than you think.

Self-Compassion Over Perfection

This is my hardest lesson, but the most important. Some days, I nail my routine. Other days, I skip workouts, eat snacks without guilt, or stay up too late. That’s life. Being too hard on yourself doesn’t help anyone. The key is showing up again tomorrow.

Reminder: Progress > Perfection. Celebrate the small wins; they add up faster than you think.

Final Thoughts

This September Reset isn’t about radical change or impossible goals. It’s about showing up for yourself, one realistic step at a time. It’s about movement that feels good, meals that fuel your energy, rest that replenishes, and little moments of joy that keep your soul happy.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that life at 34 is messy, beautiful, and full of opportunities to care for yourself in ways that actually stick. This month, I’m taking the reset seriously, and I hope you join me.
